SKODA has earned itself a reputation as one of the 'go to' makers of sensible, reliable, does-what-it-says-on-the-tin family cars, writes William Scholes.
Its cars are widely-lauded, and rightly so. It's SUVs are particularly good, coming in three sizes so there's bound to be one that fits most family's needs.
In between the size 'L' Kodiaq and the 'S' Kamiq comes this car, the M-sized Karoq.
Here we have another finely-judged Skoda - solidly constructed, sensibly equipped and thoughtfully practical.
There is an abundance of petrol and diesel drivetrain choices - I lost count after seven, with power outputs between 108bhp and 187bhp - and a wide range of trim levels and options.
Standout features include 'VarioFlex' rear seats. This gives you three separate seats, which can be individually adjusted and also completely removed; thus configured, the Karoq becomes a small van with a 1,810 litre load capacity.
Without resorting to Varioflex trickery, the boot's volume is 521 litres with the rear seats in place, or 1,630 litres when folded.
Safety equipment offered on the Karoq include park assist, lane assist, traffic jam assist, blind spot detection, front assist with predictive pedestrian protection and emergency assist.
Prices start at £23,675, with trim levels running from SE to Sportline, the most expensive version of which is £35,660.
It's a particularly broadly talented family car and what it lacks in flair it makes up in sheer common sense.
