Participating outlets include big names such as Caffè Nero, Tim Hortons, Greggs but also many small businesses, usually cafes, bakeries and delis. Some farm shops have signed up too.
You specify an area, then check the app to see what’s on offer that day or the following day. Make a selection, pay a fraction of the usual price (normally about a third) and turn up at a specified time slot to collect your ‘Magic Bag’, a mystery assortment of savoury or sweet items.
By the nature of the concept, this is hit and miss – and occasionally an order is cancelled, so make sure you have a plan B if your meal depends on it.
