FAMILIES are invited to enjoy a face-face encounter with some of the feathered residents at Balloo Woodland Nature Reserve in Bangor today from 11am until 1pm. Local bird expert Aidan Crean joins Ulster Wildlife for a bird-ringing demonstration and spot of bird-watching around the nature reserve.

Balloo Woodland’s mature trees are home to a colourful variety of birds, from robins and rooks to goldcrests and greenfinches. The event provides a great opportunity to get a close-up look at some familiar species, as well as some you won’t see in your own garden.

Balloo Woodland is the last remnant of the gardens of Balloo House – home of the Steele-Nicholson family from the early 1700s. It is now managed by Ulster Wildlife in partnership with Ards and North Down Borough Council as an oasis for wildlife and people.
