Lily Spence Shield final

St Benedict’s, Randalstown 4-4 Dominican, Fortwilliam 4-3

ST Benedict’s, Randalstown battled hard in the final 10 minutes of an exciting final in Dunsilly to rescue this game that looked to be running away from them.

They were rewarded with a very late goal from Amy Moss to retain the Lily Spence Shield they won last year by beating St Paul’s, Bessbrook.

Their opponents this year were newcomers Dominican College, Fortwilliam, who took an interval lead of 2-1 to 1-3 with two goals from Sofia Privilege and a point from Rosa O’Connor.

However, it really was end to end stuff and Ciara McCann’s goal and a point along with points each from Brogan Graham and Annie Rankin kept things very tight at the turnover.

The score-for-score nature of the game continued through the second half with Rosa O’Connor and Mena McGarrigle cancelling further goals from McCann that completed her hat-trick.

Dominican were still ahead in the final few minutes when Moss pounced on a rebound from the goalkeeper after Brogan Graham’s initial shot was saved to force the sliotar over the line to clinch a second successive title for St Benedict’s.

The Randalstown outfit had big performances from Katie Hughes, Tanisha McCann, Erin Neeson, Brogan Graham and top-scorer Ciara McCann, while Aoife Downey, Orla Graham, Ava Reilly and Rosa O’Connor all turned in great games for Dominican.

St Benedict’s C McCann 3-1; A Moss 1-1; A Rankin & B Graham 0-1 each
