How the Glen players rated: If Conleth McGuckian doesn’t try a pass that isn’t really on, Glen don’t win the All-Ireland

Connlan Bradley: An important supplement to their outfield play, particularly when he pressed out on the Brigid’s kickout in the second half. Big save from Ben O’Carroll with his feet. Sound season. 8

Michael Warnock: Found the pacy and directness of Ben O’Carroll a real handful in the first half. Switched across to Ciaran Sugrue then. Kept going and came up with a big score to bring it back to three late on. 6

Ryan Dougan: The switch of Dougan on to O’Carroll was the stitch that held Glen’s challenge together. Dougan was brilliant in the second half, aggressive and fast and strong. Glen are indebted to him. 8.5

Connor Carville: Had a sound game on Ciaran Sugrue, though they were both on the periphery of proceedings. Hobbled off midway through the second half with a bad knee. 6

Eunan Mulholland: The calf injury that bothered him coming into the final was kept quiet. Knew when he went off after 23 minutes that something wasn’t right. 6

Ciaran McFaul: For long periods of the game, Glen got their energy from McFaul. Got one fine score but his radar let him down in front of goal a few times, the only minus in a performance his side badly needed. 7.5

Cathal Mulholland: It hadn’t all gone his way but he produced one of the game’s key moments with a superb diving block on Ben O’Carroll moments after Conor Glass’ goal, when the game was level. Was just back on from his black card. 6

Conor Glass: The man that refused to be beaten. Big first-half score with his left foot. Took serious punishment in the air to try and give Glen a bit of territorial dominance. The game swung on his goal, brilliantly finished. 9

Emmett Bradley: Started off really brightly with a big opening ten minutes, kicking a fine point. Faded for a while but came back into it after half-time. Always reliable on the frees. 7

Ethan Doherty: When Glen really needed Doherty, he came good. The final fifteen minutes, he was involved in so much. Hadn’t had it all his own way against the impressive Ruaidhrí Fallon up until that. 7

Jody McDermott: Played basically as a third midfielder. Instinctive left-footed finish for another big goal on this campaign trail. Energetic all day, one bad left-footed wide. 7

Tiarnan Flanagan: Brilliant piece of defending to stand Robbie Dolan up and then block his goal chance early on. Moments later a loose pass almost let Brigid’s in for goal but he got away with it. Got on plenty of ball. 6.5

Alex Doherty: Good early tackle set the defensive tone and had an indirect hand in 1-1 in the first half but found Pearse Frost having the game of his life up against him. 6

Danny Tallon: Squared the ball calmly for Jody McDermott’s goal. Didn’t get on the scoresheet and lost Brian Stack a few times early on, but settled that battle. Few good moments around the middle when he dropped deeper. His pressure forced the turnover for Glass’ goal. 6

Conleth McGuckian: If he doesn’t see Conor Glass and try a pass that’s not really on, Glen don’t win the All-Ireland, simple as. A couple of big turnovers in each half and the point to push them two clear late on, certainly had his moments in the game. 7.5

Subs

Conor Convery: Instantly involved in setting up a badly needed score as soon as he came on. Brought real intent with him. His strong driving run drew the free from which Emmett Bradley kicked them ahead in the 61st minute. 7

Stevie O’Hara: A rash wide soon after he came on but settled down after that. 6

Cahir McCabe: Not on long enough to be rated.
