Monaghan’s Darren Hughes returned home from hospital on Sunday night and it is believed there is nothing broken in his leg.

An MRI in the coming days will determine the extent of ligament damage.

Hughes was stretchered off early in the second half of Monaghan’s Ulster SFC preliminary round defeat to Cavan on Sunday in Clones.

It was initially feared the Scotstown veteran had suffered a broken leg.

Farney manager Vinny Corey said immediately after the match: He’s away to hospital.

“That’s the big loss out of it. This is Darren’s 18th season and to see him go off like that there is devastating.

“Whatever about the result, we just hope that whatever injury he has got, isn’t a bad one.”
