BIG screen designer and installation firm SVi Digital Systems has begun the roll out of the first large format advertising screens on public transport in Belfast.

SVi has been working with Wrightbus, Global and Translink to trial its innovative new ad format the panels, and they can be seen on buses around Belfast.

Incorporated on several of Translink's Wrightbus Electroliner Metro buses, the vehicles have been in service around Belfast experiencing all weather and road conditions over a six-month trial period.

The SVi designed displays are a digital version of the popular bus Superside format, on the pedestrian-facing side of a double deck bus.

The new digital LED screens are not only the first-of-their-kind but also the first full-size digital Superside panels in the UK and Ireland.

The Driver and Vehicle Agency (DVA) approved screen installations will deliver high quality and high-definition broadcasting capabilities offering a major opportunity to digitise current printed assets as current materials require ongoing replacement and subsequent disposal.

The screens will play a significant role in the future in the drive towards a zero-carbon footprint in public transport systems and can be provided in a range of formats for installation on various vehicle types and sizes including singe deck buses.

Graham Slane, founder of SVi Digital Systems, heralded the partnership as the beginning of an innovative digital era in public transport worldwide.

He said: “This is a radical departure for bus advertising not just in Northern Ireland but globally.

“We are providing advertisers and bus operators with a range of new benefits that includes copy rotation, dynamic campaign abilities, location-targeting, increased flexibility through creative changes and shorter advertising lead times.

“These screens also open the potential to broadcast public information including live air quality updates and public safety alerts.”

H added: “We have developed and refined digital technology for this specific application in order to expand rapidly into international markets with the local trial providing a shop window.”

Historically SVi was the first company in Europe to own and operate a programmable electronic display and is now a leading supplier of LED digital screens glob
