AIRCRAFT maker Spirit AeroSystems will host a jobs fair at its Newtownabbey facility on Saturday May 20 as it seeks to hire more than 100 people for skilled production positions.

And significantly, many of the posts will be offered to those without previous aerospace experience, who will receive training at the company’s skills centre.

“We need talented people to help build the future of aviation,” said Ciara Kennedy, Spirit’s site leader.

“Our commitment to building a diverse and inclusive workforce is unwavering, and we look forward to welcoming new team members who share our passion for excellence.”

She said there is the potential for immediate job offers at the career fair, with base pay rates starting at £28,500 and rising to £31,200.

She added: “Spirit is committed to the growth of our Belfast site. Over the last year, Spirit Belfast has grown by over 500 people.

“We are also benefitting from the recovery in the airline industry with passenger levels back at pre-Covid levels and production rates up over 20 per cent in 2022 and we expect to do the same in 2023.”

East Belfast MP Gavin Robinson, who is chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Aerospace at Westminster, said: “Northern Ireland’s defence, security and aerospace sectors employ over 7,000 people and contribute £1.5 billion to the economy locally.

“Spirit AeroSystems are a growing part of this sector, and Saturday's jobs event is a further vote of confidence in the economy and our local workforce.

“Spirit are not just a regionally significant company, but are a significant player in the UK’s defence and aerospace sector, and their growth and development is good news for the wider sector.”

The hiring event at the Spirit’s facility on Doagh Road will run from 10am to 3pm.
