NEWRY fashion retailer Louis Boyd has invested another £250,000 in refurbishing its Mill Street outlet, which has been a heartbeat of the city since 1960.

It has added a new first floor men's suit department featuring ranges including Remus Uomo and Irish designed menswear clothing brand Benetti.

They will add to brands offered by Louis Boyd including Tommy Hilfiger, Farah, Superdry, Diesel, Jack Wills, Tommy Bowe, Hush Puppy, Base London, Lyle & Scott and Sergio Duletti.

And it brings the number of staff now employed in the retailer's flagship store to 25.

It also complements the offer at the retailer's other outlets at Buttercrane in Newry, the Park Centre and Kennedy Centre in Belfast, and at Rushmere in Craigavon.

“We're thrilled at the addition, and to our continued growth overall,” according to director Liam Boyd.

“The company has invested significantly over recent years, including at either side of the Covid lockdown period, and we're reaping the benefits in our trading figures.

“Our stores performed exceptionally from the High Street Voucher Scheme, and given the added value across our offer, we're gearing for a good Christmas.”

The expansion comes less than 18 months since the passing of the business's founder and fashion entrepreneur Louis Boyd, who passed away in July last year at the age of 88.

He opened his first menswear store in Newry in 1960 at the age of 26, and his Mill Street store has blossomed into one of the north’s best known independent retailers.
