THE Almac Group has announced the completion of a £5 million research and development centre at its Craigavon headquarters.

The new 21,500 sq ft two-storey facility will house 100 employees of the Almac Sciences division, providing space for additional scientists to develop new technology and projects for the group’s biocatalysis, flow chemistry and peptides businesses.

It represents the first phase of an ongoing expansion plan.

Almac said it is actively recruiting another 20 staff members.

Professor Tom Moody, VP for technology development and commercialisation at Almac Sciences said the investment in the new facility has been critical in supporting the rapid expansion of the group’s innovative technology offering across different disciplines.

“As our technology evolves, we are experiencing an ever-increasing pipeline of projects taking advantage of our integrated offering from development through to manufacture,” he said.

“It is an exciting time to be at Almac as our technology success breeds success. We look forward to driving innovation for our clients in this new centre.”

Almac now employs more than 5,000 people across 18 facilities worldwide.

In June 2020, the pharmaceuticals group announced a pre-tax profit of £48m on a record turnover of £634m. The company said it was part of its strong growth trajectory.
