Trethowan new Progressive chairman

PROGRESSIVE Building Society has announced John Trethowan as its new chairman.

Mr Trethowan has been involved with public and private enterprises throughout Ireland for more than four decades.

Having joined the board of Northern Ireland's largest locally owned building society in 2012, he will now lead the Progressive board in this, its centenary year.

A native of Belfast, Mr Trethowan retired from an executive position in banking in 2007. He is chairman of the Northern Ireland Transport Holding Company and head of the Credit Review Office in Ireland.

Darina Armstrong, chief executive of Progressive, said: "John is a highly respected professional in his field and has had a hugely successful career working in the banking sector throughout Ireland.

"We are delighted with John's appointment as chairman of Progressive Building Society and look forward to his insight and counsel which will be incredibly valuable to the board, our employees and our members."

Mr Trethowan will take charge of Progressive's Annual General Meeting to be held in Riddel Hall at Queen's University Belfast at 3pm on April 29.
