DOCTOR Who is set to visit The Giant’s Causeway in a new audiobook adventure based on the hit BBC sci-fi series.

Actor Paul McGann will reprise his role as The Eighth Doctor in Doctor Who: Sontarans vs Rutans: The Battle of Giant's Causeway, written by Lizzie Hopley.

The four-part story will also feature India Fisher returning as Charley Pollard, Conrad Westmaas back as C'rizz and Dan Starkey as Commander Caecilius Crassus Procullus.

The synopsis reads: “The war between the Sontarans and the Rutans has been going on for millennia. And is likely to continue for millennia more.

“A terrible conflict with no care for consequences or collateral damage. Billions have died with no end in sight. Its reach can encompass ancient Ireland and a forest world in the far future.

“A temporal tidal wave leads the Doctor, Charley and C'rizz to the Giant's Causeway, Ireland, 55BC, where the TARDIS drains of power and they encounter Sontarans who believe they’re Roman Legionnaires.

The new adventure was recorded in May of this year for release in early 2024. Doctor Who: Sontarans vs Rutans will be released in monthly parts between January and April, with a story which weaves through the lives of the Third, Sixth, Eighth and War Doctors.

The series cast also includes Tim Treloar (the Third Doctor), Colin Baker (the Sixth Doctor) and Jonathon Carley (the War Doctor), with Dan Starkey playing a variety of Sontarans.

Producer David Richardson says: "I realised the 50th anniversary of The Time Warrior was approaching, and that we were long overdue a big, epic foray into the Sontaran/Rutan war.

“I pitched the concept to executive producers Jason Haigh-Ellery and Nicholas Briggs and got a pretty instant green light to get underway with development."

“I felt it was time to revisit the travelling triumvirate of the Eighth Doctor, Charley and C’rizz - in fact we were long overdue a revisit.

“Everyone got very excited by the idea so my next step was to chat to Conrad to see if he was willing to reprise the role. I think he pretty much said, ‘Just tell me when and where you want me’.

“‘We’ve got the band back together,” enthuses Paul McGann, who first portrayed Doctor Who in a 1996 TV movie aimed at the US market, which also featured Sylvester McCoy as The Seventh Doctor.

Actor Conrad Westmaas adds: “Not having been in the studio for 15 years was a bit daunting – but Paul, India and I just threw ourselves headlong into battle, had an absolute blast, and I honestly think this is one of the strongest outings this team has ever had.

“I'm so proud of it and can't wait for people to hear it!”
