Simple Minds: Acoustic Live, June 6, Waterfront Hall, Belfast
JIM Kerr and co return to Belfast next year with a different kind of Simple Minds show.
Based around their descriptively titled current album, Simple Minds – Acoustic, the Acoustic Live tour finds the Scots pop rockers 'unplugging' for a run through their hit-packed back catalogue.
Having recorded a rare acoustic session for the Chris Evans Breakfast Show in September 2014, the band were so pleased with the reaction that they began putting together a full 90 minute acoustic set for the Zermatt Unplugged Festival in Switzerland earlier this year.
Having developed meticulously layered acoustic arrangements of their best-loved songs, they began hatching plans to record them.
The Simple Minds Acoustic versions of favourites like Alive and Kicking, Don't You (Forget About Me) and Glittering Prize stick to many of the ideas forged for that first Swiss show, with the synthetic and electric sounds of old replaced with warmer effects.
"Don't be fooled by the acoustic tag," enthuses Kerr of the upcoming tour, "these shows will be as energetic and passionate as ever.
