THE talents of more than 200 artists based in 15 Belfast studios will be celebrated this month as part of Belfast Open Studios 2015, an initiative that gives the public a chance to see art being made and to meet the artists themselves.

"Behind so many doors across the city, in nooks and crannies, flow the creative juices of a host of artists working across many creative platforms," says Noel Kelly, chief executive of Visual Artists Ireland. "Belfast Open Studios 2015 is about sharing these talents."

One such artist is Eoin McGinn, based in Loft Studios in Belfast's North Street. The 30-year-old often applies the contrast between urban and rural life to his canvases and street art – originally from Gortin in Co Tyrone, he now studies art in Manchester and Belfast.

"I find the city a more interesting canvas than wood or a gallery wall. I like to combine the natural world and figurative work with the more abstract architectural structures," says McGinn, whose work can be seen on the streets of Belfast, Dublin and London.

The artist will be taking part in two events – live painting in Victoria Square on Friday October 23 and White Wash, where 50 artists will be painting on containers in Belfast harbour.
