Marc Maron, Wednesday September 2, Vicar Street, Dublin

DON'T you just hate it when your favourite not-to-be-missed artists announce a single date somewhere that's an overnight trip away, only to add a much handier gig just down the road mere hours after you've booked non-refundable travel and accommodation?

Welcome to my world: shortly after Marc Maron's pair of London shows at the Southbank Centre on September 3 and 4 went on sale, the cult US comedian and podcaster extraordinaire added a lone Irish date to his handful of non-US Maronation gigs.

Still, it's time to suck it up and say "the more Maron the merrier", because the neurotic LA-based wit is not exactly a regular round these parts: next week's Dublin gig is only his third Irish visit in over 20 years of touring.

You can read about how a fortnight in Kilkenny (of all places) during 2010 finally cured his life-long fear of Irish people in the excellent autobiography, Attempting Normal.

The past half-decade has been good to Marc in many other exciting, life-enhancing ways, what with the biggest names in comedy, music, film and even The White House popping by his garage twice-weekly to appear on WTFpod.com and his semi-autobiographical TV sitcom Maron now in its third highly entertaining series.

But has such late-breaking respect and acclaim begun to infuse the comedian's incisive on-stage ruminations on life, upbringing and middle-age with an enhanced level of positivity and hopefulness?

Find out next week.
