KYLE McCALL could be set for a considerable spell on the sidelines after he suffered a “significant” hamstring injury during last Sunday’s European Champions Cup defeat by Clermont.

The Ulster prop suffered the injury midway through the first-half in France, which left Ulster a man short as the hosts scored the second of their five tries.

He will see a surgeon in London this week to explore surgical options. He is ruled out of Friday’s sold-out inter-provincial tie with Connacht, at least.

Pete Browne is also out of that game after he suffered a concussion, though there’s better news for Andrew Trimble as he recovers from a foot injury suffered in Ireland’s win over Australia to re-enter the reckoning.

McCall and Browne are added to a considerable injury list that includes Jared Payne, Stuart Olding, Craig Gilroy, Robbie Diack, Alan O’Connor and Marcell Coetzee, who is yet to make his debut following his summer move.
