Derry will be without Aoife Shaw for this weekend's clash with Waterford

DERRY will take on Waterford in their final National League Division One game of the season at Owenbeg. The game will be played as a double-header with Derry’s National Football League game with Meath.

The Oak Leafers are yet to register a victory and manager Ciaran Cunningham will be hoping to end their league campaign with points on the board: “We want to end the campaign with a victory, we are geared up for a win. Going into the Championship with a win under our belts would be a massive difference and would generate a better mood around the camp," he said.

“It should be a good game, like us Waterford are yet to register a win. The game will be at Owenbeg which is a big pitch and should suit our style of play. Unfortunately we will be without three of our starters [Louise Duggan, Sinead Faulkner and Aoife Shaw] who are away for Easter, so there will be a few positional changes."

Derry competed well with Limerick last week but were guilty of not taking their chances and that is something Cunningham says they have been working on: “I spoke to the girls after last week’s game and told them we need to be more clinical, we’ve been working on that in training as I said I’d rather be creating chances that not.

"That is one of the main differences between us and other sides at this level, when they are in on goal they take their chance. We are a young side so I know it will come. There are only eight girls who have been with the county for three years or more and about 20 who are in their first our second year. That shows that there is talent and potential in Derry,” he added.

Antrim and Down are in action in Division Two taking on Meath and Kildare respectively, both sides will be hoping to end their league campaigns with a win: “The league has been very up and down for us so far, we got off to a good start but then against Carlow we went out of the game in the second-half which left us as a team asking ourselves a lot of questions," said Down captain Paula Gribben.

"Last week, we had a good battle with Laois but they got a bit of luck for a few goals which seen out the game. So in all we are approaching our last League game with hunger to gain two more points as we feel we haven't performed to our full potential yet. But it being arranged for Easter Sunday has left us a few short due to prior holiday arrangements. We know Kildare have performed well throughout the League but this will not stop us looking to take two points up the road with us on Easter Sunday."

In their final Division Three game, Cavan take on Kerry at Ballinagh.
