RORY McIlroy recorded his first hole in one on the PGA Tour during the first round of the Travelers Championship in Connecticut on Thursday.

McIlroy, who missed out by a shot to Wyndham Clark in the US Open in Los Angeles last week, aced the 214-yard eighth at TPC River Highlands and added three more birdies and two bogeys to reach three under by the 14th hole.

Shane Lowry signed for a bogey-free card as he recorded a six-under 64 to leave him two shots off early leader Keegan Bradley, while Seamus Power was two under after 12 holes.

Meanwhile, Tom McKibbin's return to Germany for the first time since his European Open win in Hamburg last month started well as he carded a four-under 68 on day one of the BMW International Open in Munich.

Ryder Cup vice-captain Edoardo Molinari claimed a share of the clubhouse lead alongside France's Adrien Saddier and Japan's Rikuya Hoshino.

Play was suspended for the day shortly before 7pm local time due to the threat of lightning, with 27 players yet to complete their rounds.
