AUDITIONS with a novel twist will take place at Dunsilly on Saturday as this year’s club Allstar winners get the chance to impress county managers Darren Gleeson and Andy McEntee.
Now in its third year, the Devenish Complex Antrim Allstars scheme has innovated further by introducing two one-off matches between the Allstars and county teams.
Players from junior, intermediate and senior grade gained Allstar recognition in both football and hurling at an awards ceremony in the Devenish last month.
Now, each player will get the chance to catch the county managers’ eye-line at Antrim’s Centre of Excellence this Saturday (12noon) in an event that has been billed ‘Meet Your Heroes’.
“We at the Devenish Complex are delighted to be involved in this fantastic idea,” said the Devenish’s managing director Jim Conlon.
“We’re only too happy and honoured to continue to sponsor the Antrim Club Allstars scheme and to build on our relationship with Antrim GAA.
“For the winners to be able to showcase their incredible talent against our county teams is a great opportunity for them and to perhaps show their respective county managements what they are capable of.”
Desi McClean (Gort na Mona), Thomas Burns (Armoy) and Chris McKiernan (Cloughmills), from the junior and intermediate hurling ranks, won Allstar recognition and they’ll be keen to see how they measure up against the elite players in the county this weekend.
Likewise, in football, Andy McEntee is hoping to unearth a couple of rough diamonds among the Club Allstars team.
It’ll be the county teams’ first opposition of the new season as the hurlers prepare for another stiff test in Division One while the footballers aim to give promotion a crack from Division Three in 2024.
