A rock solid Bredagh defence, typified by an outstanding performance from goalkeeper Ian Galway, laid the foundations for a solid and assured 2-19 0-09 victory over Carryduff in the Down Intermediate Hurling Championship final.

Bredagh's centre-back Niall McFarland claimed man-of-the-match, part of a defensive unit that forced their opponents into a fatal 15 wides, while Galway also saved a penalty in a game Carryduff will feel they should have made more of a contest of.

With only two scores in the first 22 minutes, they made life rather difficult against their south Belfast rivals, as Sean Hughes capitalized on Carryduff fouls on four occasions, while he also added one from play as he top scored on the big occasion.

Sean McGourty was also to the fore, chipping in with three scores, all from play, as Bredagh took home the crown.

In today's Junior decider, Kilclief had too much for East Belfast, running out comfortable winners on a scoreline of 2-20 to 3-8.

A Stefan McGrattan goal just minutes before the break was crucial, limiting the damage of two prior East Belfast goals and giving the favourites a five-point lead at half-time.

McGrattan hit a further four scores in the latter period, and despite a late Owen Taggart goal, the result rarely looked in doubt.
