Busy world just keeps rushing by

WHEN I was a young boy I used to think that everyone and everything stopped at 3pm on Good Friday to remember the moment that Jesus gave His life for us on the Cross. Now I know that the busy world just keeps on rushing by as usual.

This afternoon, in churches all over the world, the faithful will gather in solemn commemoration of the Crucifixion. They will behold the wood of the Cross from which the Saviour cried out: "My God, My God, Why have you abandoned me?"

His cry echoes in empathy with countless numbers of our fellow human beings who are suffering unjustly around the world today from war, violence, persecution, famine and disease. And the busy world just keeps on rushing by as usual.

Save us, Saviour of the world, for by your Cross and Resurrection You have set us free.
