LIAM Neeson has shown his support for the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust at a fundraising event for the charity in New York.

The Ballymena-born Star Wars and Taken star attended the event at the Irish Embassy in the city on Sunday, where the Emerald Guild of New York donated $20,000.

The Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust helps families whose loved ones have died overseas, assisting with the costs of returning their bodies to Ireland.

The charity was founded by Newry's Colin and Eithne Bell, whose son Kevin was killed in a hit-and-run collision in New York in 2013.

A trust spokesperson said in a social media post: "A big thank you to great supporters of the Trust, the Emerald Guild of New York, especially their President Mickey McCreesh (Forkhill) Keith Quinn (Mayobridge) and Keith Scally - the organisers of the fundraiser - for yet another $20,000 donation."

They added: "A special mention to Liam Neeson who very kindly made the effort to attend the presentation."
