Detectives are investigating an attempted armed robbery of a fast food takeaway in north Belfast.

A staff member was left shaken after the man armed with a knife entered the takeaway on Clifton Street around 1.45am on Tuesday and demanded money.

The man, described as aged in his 20s and 5ft 8in tall, left the premises with no money and ran off in the direction of Henry Place.

“Our enquiries are continuing and…want to appeal to anyone who was in the area and saw what happened, or who saw the suspect to make contact with us,” the PSNI said.

“The staff member, whilst physically unharmed, was left shaken by what was obviously a terrifying experience.”

The attempted robbery follows another on the Ardoyne Road in north Belfast on Saturday when men armed with suspected firearms entered a shop and made of with a sum of money.
