A man and a woman have been arrested in Co Tyrone after being linked to seizures of cannabis worth £290,000.

Police had first intercepted a 4kg delivery of suspected herbal cannabis, prompting the search on Thursday of a property in the Keenaghan Road area of Cookstown.

Officers then seized a further quantity of drugs with an estimated street value of £30,000 along with other drug-related paraphernalia.

Arrested at the scene, the woman (48) was charged with offences related to possession and intent to supply of a Class B drug as well as possessing a Class A drug.

The man (59) was also charged with possession and intent to supply a Class B drug, and further arrested on suspicion of theft relating to a separate report.

Both remain in custody and are also thought to be linked to two previous interceptions of suspected herbal cannabis with a combined weight of 8.5kg, police have said.

A police spokesperson said: “This is a significant seizure of drugs worth an estimated £290,000 destined for our streets. We will continue to work with partner agencies and local communities to identify those who prey on the most vulnerable in society.
