Two arrested in Donegal over alleged assault at Sliabh Liag

GARDAÍ have arrested two people in Co Donegal over an alleged assault that took place near the sea cliffs of Sliabh Liag over the weekend.

Gardaí said the alleged assault took place some time between Saturday and Sunday.

It follows as the Irish Coast Guard were carrying out a missing person search in the area on Monday.

A man in his 30s and a woman in her 20s have now been arrested and remain in custody.

Search and rescue operation conducted at popular Co Donegal sea cliffs

The public are advised that access remains restricted to the popular sea cliffs at Slieve League to allow for the investigation.

A Garda spokesperson said: “Any road users who were travelling in the vicinity of Sliabh Liag between Saturday evening, June 24 and Sunday evening, June 25, and who may have camera footage (including dash cam) is asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí.

“Anyone with information can contact Ballyshannon Garda Station on 071 985 8530, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.

Standing at almost 2,000ft, Sliabh Liag dwarfs the more famous Cliffs of Moher (390ft) and is among the highest sea cliffs in Europe.
