Dublin-born television presenter Craig Doyle is the new favourite to replace Philip Schofield on This Morning.

Bookmakers say the 52-year-old, who lives in Wicklow, is 5/2 favourite to take over the role on the long-running daytime show.

Other names in the mix to become the new host include Dermot O’Leary, Alison Hammond, Rochelle Humes, Rylan Clark and Josie Gibson - who are all regular stand-ins on the show.

Clarke currently ties with Craig for the job role at 5/2, while Hammond and O'Leary stand at 3/1.

It comes after Schofield's dramatic exit from the programme after more than 20 years.

A spokesperson for BoyleSports bookmakers said: "Craig stood in for Dermot [O'Leary] on the show last week and it seemed to have sparked an interest with viewers who are now betting on him to land the gig.

"Social media lit up with praise for Doyle as he hosted alongside Alison Hammond which wouldn’t have gone unnoticed with ITV bosses."

Doyle is already a familiar face on This Morning, having previously presented the show as one of the stand-in presenters.

He was previously been the anchor of BT Sport's rugby coverage, a BBC Sport presenter and also worked for ITV Sport.

He also had his own talk show called Tonight with Craig Doyle on RTÉ One and became an investigative reporter on Lorraine.
