THE Ulster Grand Prix motorcycle race has been cancelled for the fourth year in a row after organisers said funding and insurance issues forced them to pull the plug.

The Motorcycle Union of Ireland Ulster Centre (MCUI) had hoped to go ahead with the race at Dundrod, Co Antrim in August, after previously announcing all motorcycle races in the north had been scrapped for 2023 due to insurance costs.

In February, an appeal was made to Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council to help support the race, but on Tuesday it was confirmed it would not be going ahead after all.

The event was last held in 2019 before being canceled the following year due to Covid.

A spokesperson for Dundrod and District Motorcycle Club announced the decision "with deep regret", adding they had faced issues over insurance and funding.

"Given these uncertainties, the Dundrod club has been left with no option other than to make the unfortunate decision being announced today," a spokesperson added.
