A FANTASY blockbuster movie shot in the north has earned a global weekend box office total of $71.5 million following its release on Friday.

Dungeons and Dragons: Honour Among Thieves was shot on location across Northern Ireland in 2021, and stars Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez and Regé-Jean Page among others in the adaptation of the popular role-playing tabletop game.

The film has earned $38.5 million in north America alone since opening, beating the earnings of movies including the recently released John Wick: Chapter 4.

Northern Ireland Screen, which worked alongside Paramount Pictures and production company eOne in bringing the film to life, has revealed around 500 people from the north were directly involved in the shoot, which was centred at Belfast's Titanic Studios, formerly home to TV hit Game of Thrones.

Other locations featured in scenes include Carrickfergus Castle, Tollymore Forest Park in Co Down and Ballintoy Beach on the north coast of Co Antrim.

NI Screen CEO Richard Williams said the movie was "yet another example of how Northern Ireland continues to cement its reputation as a location of choice for international productions".

He added: "As is evidenced on screen, we are uniquely positioned to offer stunning locations alongside world class studio space underpinned by highly skilled and experienced crew."
