Newry actor Niamh Morgan has been named in the role of Pat Hume in the forthcoming musical drama based on the lives and legacy of Mrs Hume and her husband, the late John Hume.

Hume-Beyond Belief will be staged at Derry’s Guildhall later year. The drama is the result of a partnership between The John and Pat Hume Foundation and Derry’s Playhouse theatre and is being produced to mark the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement. County Derry actor, Conor O’Kane has already been confirmed in the role of Mr Hume.

Ms Morgan who played Rumpleteazer in Cats the Movie in 2019, was confirmed in the role on what would have been Mrs Hume’s 85th birthday. Mrs Hume passed away in September 2021, just over a year after her husband’s death in August 2020.

Hume-Beyond Belief follows The Playhouse’s The White Handkerchief musical drama which marked the 50th anniversary of Bloody Sunday.

An experienced stage and film actor, Ms Morgan (29) trained at Laine Theatre Arts. As well as her film work, she has appeared in a range of stage productions, including Mary Poppins and West Side Story.

Hume Foundation chairman, Sean Farren said the organisation believed The Playhouse had the “capability, care and understanding” to develop and inspiring and creative work telling the story of Mr Hume’s life and achievements.

Dr Farren said: “Of all the organisations that could tell this story through the medium of theatre, The Hume Foundation can think of no better one.”

The musical drama will be staged from March 31 until April 7 and will also be screened across the world as part of the Good Friday Agreement commemorations.
