John McAreavey and his wife Tara have announced the birth of their second child - a baby girl called Lily.

The former Down Gaelic footballer revealed the news in a post on social media on Sunday.  He tweeted: "Welcome to the gang Lily. Tara you’re amazing."

The couple also have a two-year-old boy, James.

Tara gave birth to James in December 2020, four years after she and John married in a private ceremony in Co Kildare.

In September of 2020 the couple revealed their happy news about James in a social media post similar to their latest announcement, mentioning "the bump" while on a vacation in Co Donegal.

John's first wife Michaela was murdered on the couple's honeymoon to Mauritius in 2011. The 27-year-old teacher and daughter of Tyrone GAA boss Mickey Harte was found dead in the couple's hotel room.

To date, no-one has been convicted for her killing, while John has continued to campaign for justice for Michaela.
