THE public apology to victims of institutional abuse will be streamed live from 12.30pm on Friday.

Ministers Michelle McIlveen, Conor Murphy, Nichola Mallon, Robin Swann and Naomi Long will each offer an apology in the assembly chamber on behalf of the executive.

Each of the institutions criticised by the landmark 2017 Historical Institutional Abuse (HIA) inquiry report for systemic failings will also make apologies.

These institutions are: De La Salle Order, Sisters of Nazareth, Good Shepherd Sisters, Sisters of St. Louis, Barnardo’s and Irish Church Missions.

The HIA report recommended an apology to officially acknowledge that the abuse of children in institutions run by churches, charities and the state should have been prevented or detected.

The apology will be streamed live from 12:30pm on the assembly's YouTube and Facebook channels and on its website https://niassembly.tv.

Victims and survivors can view the apology online or watch from WAVE trauma centres in Belfast, Armagh, Omagh, Ballymoney and Derry. Victims wishing to attend a centre are advised to contact WAVE on 028 9077 9922.

WAVE will operate a dedicated support line on the same number between 9am and 8pm tomorrow and between 10am and 5pm on Saturday and Sunday.

The Victims and Survivors Service (VSS) will be available on 028 9031 1678 or via webchat on victimsservice.org.

VSS will attend tomorrow's apology to provide emotional support.

The Commissioner for Survivors of Institutional Childhood Abuse is also available until 9pm tomorrow and during office hours over the weekend on 028 9054 4985.

Victims who want more information on the apology can email The Executive Office on HIAImplementationBranch@executiveoffice-ni.gov.uk.
