A 22-year-old man is to be prosecuted over a 2017 incident in which a teenager died after the deceased's family asked for a review of a decision not to charge anyone.

Jordan McConomy (19) died in the incident at William Street in Derry city centre on September 24 2017.

Derry Magistrate's Court yesterday heard the case of Dane Barry McKeever of Fahan Street in Derry mentioned.

Mr McKeever is facing one charge of affray.

His solicitor Ciaran Shields said his client had initially been told that there was not going to be any charges following the incident, but the family of the dead man had asked this decision to be reviewed and now his client was being charged.

He told the court he believes the CCTV of the incident showed McKeever as the victim of a serious assault on the date in question.

The court heard that, while the defence has been notified that papers and footage was available from the PSNI in Belfast, there had been a delay in these materials reaching them.

Mr Shields asked that the preliminary enquiry be adjourned for three weeks for that material to be examined.

The case will return to court on August 9.
