A CO Derry GAA club has shared a poignant collage of pictures in a tribute to a young teacher who died suddenly.

The funeral of Catherine McCann took place in St Mary's Church in Lavey yesterday.

The vice-principal of Creggan PS in Randalstown died on Monday.

The school said it had been left devastated by the sudden loss of its colleague and friend.

"Miss McCann taught in our school for 17 years. She was a model teacher in every way, always putting her pupils first. An amazing friend to all the staff and parents and her displays of kindness to everyone she met came so naturally," the school said in a statement.

"She always arrived to school dressed in the latest fashion and then quickly pulled the trainers on her to deliver sports lessons in her lovely pink trainers. We cannot even begin to realise the void that is left in Creggan Primary School."

Erin's Own Lavey GAA club said it was greatly shocked at the death of its former senior camogie player.

Yesterday, on the day of her funeral, it shared a photographic montage of Ms McCann on Facebook.

Kickham's GAC Creggan also paid tribute.

"Catherine was a much loved and hugely popular member of the staff at Creggan Primary School and helped to instil the fundamentals of the GAA in many of our young members," the club said.
