A GAA club has warned parents to remain vigilant after two reports of a man indecently exposing himself around children in a Co Down village.

Teconnaught GAC made the appeal on its Facebook page as a 31-year-old was arrested by police.

"The club has been made aware of recent incidents in the local area which can be categorised as stranger/safeguarding concerns," it warned members.

"We would ask for parents to remain vigilant and remind your children about keeping safe and stranger danger.

"The PSNI are aware. Please be mindful of your children's whereabouts and safety at this time. Suspicious activity should be reported to the PSNI immediately."

A PSNI spokeswoman said officers "received reports of a man acting suspiciously in the Drumnaconagher Road area, outside Crossgar, on two occasions".

"The first report was received on March 20 in relation to an incident on the evening of March 19 and a second report was received on March 29."

A 31-year-old man was arrested on March 29 on suspicion of indecent exposure and "has since been released on bail pending further enquiries".

A parent who lives in the area, who did not want to be identified, said the two separate instances of indecent exposure within days of each other have alarmed people living in Teconnaught.

"This is a really family-orientated area and the children are always out playing," she said.

"However, since these incidents happened, there have been fewer children out and those who are out playing each have a parent standing with them.

"It is scary to think these types of incidents have happened around here and I am worried about the safety of my children. This sort of thing could do untold damage to them.

"There is serious concern. The police need to tell us what is going on and what they are doing to keep our children safe."

The PSNI has asked anyone with information to contact officers on 101, quoting reference number 949 of 20/03/21.
