A man in his twenties has been stabbed in the face in Newry in a "particularly vicious attack", police have said.

Northern Ireland Ambulance Service notified police shortly before 5.45am today.

PSNI Inspector Alastair Macdonald said the injured man had been found in Stream Street iwith "several stab wounds to his face" 

“This was a particularly vicious attack," he said, appealing for witnesses or anyone with information come forward.
