The heartache of missing teenager Noah Donohoe's mother is shared by people in the Co Tyrone town where she is originally from, a local councillor has said.

Fiona Donohoe is from Strabane and her close family connections still live in the town, including Noah's grandmother.

Sinn Féin councillor Michaela Boyle, who knows the family, said some people in Strabane had journeyed to Belfast to join volunteer searches for the missing 14-year-old.

"Given the family come from Strabane, I want to sincerely offer my support to the family at this really difficult and worrying time, as they wait for news on Noah's hopefully safe return," she said.

"Over the past days we have seen hundreds of volunteers have joined in searching for Noah and some of them came from Strabane, and I believe that has given Fiona some strength knowing that some of the people looking for Noah are from her home town.

"I do know people locally share the worry with Fiona. Everyone in Strabane, their hearts are breaking for her, and I would just hope and pray that he is found safe and returned to his mother.

"It's a worrying time for everybody because we don't know what has happened to him."

SDLP West Tyrone MLA Daniel McCrossan said: "Noah and Fiona have a Strabane connection, and I and the rest of Strabane are hoping and praying Noah is found safe and well.

"Like everyone else, I am shocked and concerned over Noah's disappearance.

"I urge everyone in and around the Shore Road area of north Belfast to search their buildings or let the PSNI search their buildings."
