Noah Donohoe, a 14-year-old schoolboy from south Belfast, is a Year 10 pupil at St Malachy's College on Antrim Road in the north of the city.

The school described him as an "industrious and intelligent academic" who is involved in extra-curricular music and sports activities.

"As a talented cellist, he is a member of various ensembles within school," it said.

"Our sports coaches describe Noah as a personable, good-humoured and very kind person who displays impressive competitive and athletic skills on the sports field."

The teenager is understood to be from the lower Ormeau Road area. His mother Fiona originally hails from Strabane in Co Tyrone.

Noah left his home in south Belfast on Sunday at about 5.30pm on his black Apollo mountain bike.

He was seen on Ormeau Avenue at 5.45pm, and shortly afterwards on Royal Avenue heading towards York Street.

Noah was then seen on North Queen Street heading towards Limestone Road just before 6pm.

Police said it was still not clear why the teenager travelled to the north of the city.

An eyewitness believes they saw a young male matching his description fall off his bicycle, possibly sustaining a head injury, in the vicinity of North Queen Street/York Street.

Police believe Noah cycled into Northwood Road where he took off all his clothing, as he was seen a short time later cycling while naked.

They believe he then dropped his bicycle and left the area on foot.

There have been no further confirmed sightings of Noah since 6.11pm on Sunday.

Police have recovered Noah's black crash helmet, blue Nike trainers, blue tie-die hoody, bicycle, and mobile phone.

They have not yet found his khaki green North Face coat, grey sweat shorts and a green backpack containing a Lenovo laptop and a copy of the book, '12 Rules for Life' by Jordan B Peterson.
