A REWARD of up to £5,000 is being offered in the search for a murderer who has been on the run for two years.

Thomas McCabe (56) was sentenced to life for murder in 1990 of a teenager in London but was released from prison on licence.

Police said he has been unlawfully at large since his licence was revoked in January 2018 following several breaches.

Detective Constable Julie McVeagh said since then, officers had conducted several detailed enquiries to establish McCabe's whereabouts.

"He is described as around 5ft 8in tall, of medium build with short grey coloured hair. We believe he has connections to Newry, Newtownabbey and Dublin," Ms McVeagh said.

"I would appeal to anyone who has seen Thomas McCabe, or who knows of his whereabouts to contact detectives at Musgrave Police Station on 101. I would also appeal directly to Thomas to hand himself in.

"Information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers 100 per cent anonymously. They are offering a reward of up to £5,000 for information the charity exclusively receives that leads to Thomas McCabe’s arrest."

Information passed directly to the police will not qualify for the reward. Only information passed to Crimestoppers’ using the untraceable Anonymous Online Form at www.crimestoppers-uk.org or via the 0800 555 111 freephone number will qualify.

A Crimestoppers spokesperson said: "Our charity is appealing to anybody with information on Mr McCabe's location to do the right thing and to tell us what you know, 100 per cent anonymously. What you tell us can make all of the difference.

"It is important to remind people that assisting somebody wanted for questioning over a crime can lead to prosecution."
