BJ Hogg has been described as a "a fine actor, great colleague and a true friend" following his death yesterday at the age of 65.
As well as starring in Give My Head Peace for 20 years where he played Big Mervyn, he appeared in a number of TV shows, including The Fall and Game of Thrones.
He also had parts in a number of films including Hunger, Closing the Ring, Divorcing Jack and Dance Lexie Dance, which was nominated for an Oscar in 1998.
In a statement, the Give My Head Peace gang, described Mr Hogg as "a fine actor, great colleague and a true friend".
"Our thoughts are with his wife Elish, son Nathan and daughter Abigail at this time."
Peter Johnston, Director of BBC NI, said Mr Hogg was "a great comedy talent".
"Many people will also remember his performance in the Oscar-nominated Dance, Lexie Dance," he said.
"Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad and difficult time."
