The family of a Glengormley man who lost his battle with cancer just three months after his diagnosis have told of how his passing has left them "flattened".

Paul Wilson, who was 34, died at his parent's house in Glengormley on Monday.

A married father-of-two, the mortgage broker's death came just three months after doctors found he had a tumour in his stomach.

Mr Wilson underwent chemotherapy, but the treatment was unsuccessful.

Well-known in the local community, Mr Wilson helped his uncle establish St Mary's Football Club in Glengormley just over 20 years ago.

When the club opened for the first time in 1996, Paul was one of first players. He went on to play for St Mary's FC until he was 18.

After attending Liverpool Hope University, Mr Wilson returned to Northern Ireland where he worked for Halifax and Santander before he set up his own business working as a mortgage broker.

Speaking to the Irish News, Frankie Wilson said his nephew and godson would be remembered as someone who was "very kind" and "very loving".

"He had lots of friends," he said.

"His friends were very loyal to him and he was very loyal to them.

"He was a good boy. He was fantastic at doing impressions of people. He was incredible. So naturally funny".

Frankie Wilson said that due to Covid-19 restrictions, the family would not be able to give his nephew the send-off he deserves.

Instead, on Thursday, Paul Wilson's remains will be lifted from his parent's home by family members including his parents, wife, brother and godparents.

They will be taken to Carnmoney Cemetery where a short service will take place before Mr Wilson is laid to rest.

Frankie Wilson said his godson's "shocking" death had caused "devastation".

"He was loved by many," he said.

"He was adored by his family, His family are gutted. It's really hard not to give him a good send off. We are just flattened.

"When this is all over, we are going to have a massive party for him".

St Mary's FC said it was "saddened" to hear of Mr Wilson's passing.
