Motorist shaken after van hijacked by masked man in Co Down

A MAN was left shaken but uninjured after his van was hijacked by a masked and armed man in Co Down on Tuesday evening.

The incident took place shortly after 6pm on the Ballymiscaw Road, Craigantlet.

The 25-year-old was driving a small, white Ford Connect van when he was stopped by a man armed with a suspected firearm close to the junction of Ballyregan Road.

A second man then approached the van and the motorist was forced out of the driver’s seat and into the rear.

Both men then got into the front and drove off before stopping on the Ballybarnes Road close to its junction with Ballysallagh Road.

They made off in another vehicle believed to be driven by a third accomplice, leaving the man in the rear of the van.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone with any information to contact them in Bangor on 101, quoting reference number 1681 25/05/19.
