A Co Donegal shop has sold a winning lottery ticket worth €1 million just weeks after selling another winning ticket.

The newsagents in Raphoe is owned by James Barclay, who sold the lucky ticket on Saturday night for the Irish Lotto Plus 1 game. The total prize money the ticket holder can claim is €1m (£860,000).

In February, the same shop sold a Euromillions ticket to retired farmer Charlie Meehan that matched numbers to win a total prize of €500,000 (£431,000). The 84-year-old winner said the windfall was "the icing on the cake" after having survived a battle with cancer.

The winning numbers for the Saturday's draw were 8, 11, 16, 18, 20, 46 and bonus number 40, and lottery bosses are urging people to check their tickets.

Speaking to the BBC Mr Barclay described the latest win as "great news".

"This is a very small town and to have sold a Lotto Plus 1 and a EuroMillions Plus winning ticket within a few months is brilliant," he said, adding: "Everyone that comes into the shop now I tell them to check their tickets.

"We are only six miles from the border and get a lot of visitors so who knows. Whoever it is we are thrilled for them. I don't know what the secret is. Maybe my shop is lucky."
