A MAN charged with the murder of Karol Kelly has sought compassionate bail for the birth of his child.

Sean Anderson (20) along with his brother Gary Anderson (21) both from Grafton Street in Derry are charged with the murder of Mr Kelly.

Mr Kelly (35) was knifed in the chest at Grafton Street in the Rosemount area of the city on March 4.

Derry Magistrate's Court sitting in Omagh heard a bail application had been made to release Sean Anderson.

A police officer objected on the grounds that the alleged offence had "a high impact on the community" and there were fears of public disorder.

In response to defence barrister Eoghan Devlin, the officer admitted there was nothing in Anderson's record to suggest he would flee or intimidate witnesses.

Mr Devlin said an arrangement could be made which could be agreed by court, prison service and police that would enable Anderson to see the baby if he was released and accompanied by his mother for a period of eight hours.

Bail was agreed for eight hours on terms that were not disclosed.
