A MAN charged with the murder of Karol Kelly in Derry on March 4 this year has been refused compassionate bail to spend time with his child.

Sean Anderson (20) of Grafton Street in Derry is charged with one count of murder.

At today's sitting of Derry Magistrate's Court an application was made that Anderson be granted a period of compassionate bail to spend some hours with his partner and child.

Defence solicitor Kevin Casey said in the summer there had been a similar application shortly after the child was born.

On that occasion Anderson had been released to an address in Belfast approved by police and under the supervision of family members.

He said he was making a similar application on this occasion.

A police officer said police were opposed to bail being granted.

The police officer said they could not see any reason why the child could not be brought to the prison.

The judge said he did not see why the child could not be brought to the prison and a room set aside for a period of time.

He refused bail due and adjourned the case to January 10.
