THE family of a 34-year-old single father has appealed for help after he was left seriously injured in a suspected hit-and-run in west Belfast.

Eddie Devine, a father to four girls aged between three and 13, remained seriously ill in the Ulster Hospital last night after he was knocked down at the weekend.

He was found near the junction of Springfield Road and Crocus Street at around 5am on Sunday. Mr Devine had been returning from his sister's 30th birthday the night before.

His mother Betty Devine said her family need information.

“For somebody to leave anybody laying like that … You wouldn’t do it to a dog," she told UTV.

“I just appeal to anybody on that Springfield Road, from a mother to a mother, please come forward.”
