A MAN who was arrested by police investigating the murder of Joe Reilly in west Belfast in October has been released unconditionally.

The 51-year-old man was arrested in Belfast this morning and was taken to Musgrave police station for questioning.

Mr Reilly (43), a father-of-one, was shot twice in the chest at his home in Poleglass on October 20 in what police described as a "cold blooded execution".

A son of former IRSP spokesman Kevin 'Bap' McQuillan, Mr Reilly was gunned down at his home in Glenwood Drive.

Police said that several men, one armed with a handgun, opened the unlocked door of Mr Reilly’s house.

They ordered two other people to lie down on the kitchen floor while Mr Reilly was held in the living room.

He was shot in the chest and died at the scene.

Detective Chief Inspector Peter Montgomery said police believed the murder "may be linked to illegal drugs and that it may have been carried out as some form of paramilitary-style shooting".

There have been several arrests but no-one has been charged in connection with the murder.

Last month police issued issued a specific request for information about a person on a bicycle they believe was in the area immediately after the shooting.

Police have also staged a reconstruction of the murder scene, where officers wearing similar clothing to the gunmen retraced their getaway route in the hope that further witnesses would come forward.
