THE funeral is to take place tomorrow of a Co Armagh schoolgirl described as "gifted and full of laughter".

Rebecca Haughey from Lurgan passed away at Belfast City Hospital on Thursday following a battle with cancer.

Tributes have been paid to the popular teenager, a sixth form pupil at St Catherine’s College in Armagh and member of Moyraverty Arts and Drama Society.

Her death comes just weeks after she wrote on Facebook of her determination to beat the disease, having been told by her consultant that the cancer was "working too fast for my treatment to catch up with it".

School principal Noeleen Tiffney said Rebecca was "a delightful girl, multi-talented, gifted and full of laughter".

"She had kindness and compassion at her core and was a true friend to everyone," Ms Tiffney added. "She gave so much of herself to Saint Catherine’s College and we were all enriched by having known her."

A friend also described Rebecca as "one of the most beautiful, talented, kind-hearted people I have ever met".

"You were always there if I ever needed a rant or a chat, you remained so positive throughout the horrible journey you had to embark on and I will be forever grateful to you for being such a wonderful friend."

Rebecca's funeral will take place at St Patrick’s Church, Derrymacash at 11am tomorrow.
