Man arrested after racist abuse shouted at two women

A MAN was arrested after two women were subjected to racist abuse near Belfast city centre.

The women were walking to their car on Kent Street at around 6pm on Saturday when they were abused.

They got into the car and drove away but later noticed the passenger side had been damaged.

A man was arrested and later released pending further inquiries.

Police said they are treating the attack as a racially motivated hate crime and appealed for information.

Concerns have been raised about a potential rise in racist attacks following last week's referendum vote to leave the European Union.

A swastika was sprayed on a house in Armagh over the weekend.

And on Saturday a nurse who has lived in the north for 15 years and holds dual Palestinian-UK citizenship was told to "get the f*** out of our country".

Mohammed Samaana (41) said he suffered the abuse at a bar in Belfast city centre.
