A MAN has been charged with attempted murder and possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence following a knife and hammer attack in Portadown.

The man (31) was arrested following the incident at Abercorn Park at around 11.53pm last night.

Officers who arrived at the scene  found a 34-year-old man "who had been attacked with a knife and hammer".

He had suffered injuries to his head and shoulder.

The man is due to appear at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court tomorrow, Friday, May 6.
