A MAN who admitted a series of sexual offences against a teenage girl he travelled from England to meet has been ordered to sign the sex offenders register.

Jonathan Fawcett - from Manley Road in the Lichfield area of Staffordshire - appeared in the dock of Belfast Crown Court on Wednesday where he pleaded guilty to 18 counts of sexual activity with a child.

The 26-year-old, who the court heard had "some mental health problems", committed the offences in Belfast between May and July 2009.

It is understood that Fawcett, who was 19 at the time, travelled from England to Northern Ireland to meet the 15-year old girl.

He initially faced a total of 36 sexual offences including rape.

However, after Fawcett entered guilty pleas to 18 counts of sexual activity with a child, a Crown prosecutor asked that the remaining charges be 'left on the books' and not proceeded with.

His barrister asked Judge Sandra Crawford if he could be granted continuing bail to allow experts in England to compile the necessary reports on him ahead of sentencing.

Judge Crawford granted bail, but warned Fawcett "this is not to be taken as an indication of the final outcome of this matter".

The Crown prosecutor then asked that Fawcett sign the sex offenders register before returning to England.

He will be sentenced at Belfast Crown Court in February.
